2015-16 All-ACC Academic Men’s and Women’s Fencing Teams Announced

Notre Dame’s McGrath, Boston College’s Adragna named Scholar-Athletes of the Year

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Notre Dame junior Garrett McGrath has been named the 2015-16 Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Fencing Scholar-Athlete of the Year, while Boston College senior Olivia Adragna has been selected as the 2015-16 ACC Women’s Fencing Scholar-Athlete of the Year. McGrath and Adragna headline the All-ACC Academic Men’s and Women’s Fencing Teams, as announced today.

A senior computer science major from Mesa, Arizona, McGrath earned Second Team All-America honors with an eighth place finish at the NCAA Championship and was the men’s épée runner-up at the NCAA Midwest Regional. McGrath helped lead the Irish to their second straight ACC Championship in February.

A senior film studies major from Malverne, New York, Adragna was named ACC Épée Fencer of the Year. At the ACC Championship, she earned All-ACC honors with a second place finish in the individual competition and was voted as the Championship Most Valuable Fencer.

The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards were established in September 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports.

Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career for undergraduate students. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.

The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
