2013 All-ACC Academic Cross Country Teams Announced

Florida State’s Colleen Quigley, NC State’s Andrew Colley named Scholar Athletes of the Year

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Twenty-four All-ACC performers, including eight All-Americans, secured spots on the 2013 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Cross Country teams as announced today by Commissioner John Swofford.

To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.

Florida State’s Colleen Quigley was selected as the 2013 ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year for Women’s Cross Country. Quigley led the Seminoles to their sixth consecutive ACC title by placing second overall individually at the 2013 ACC Championships held at the Beeson Park Course in Kernersville, N.C. 

She followed that up with a first place finish at the NCAA South Regional, keying FSU to a fourth straight team title. Majoring in Dietetics, the St. Louis, Mo., native completed her outstanding junior season by leading all ACC performers at the NCAA Championships with a sixth-place finish, while leading the Seminoles to an eighth-place team showing.

Named the 2013 ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year for Men’s Cross Country, NC State’s Andrew Colley capped off a stellar senior season by earning his third straight All-America honor recording the school’s highest finish ever with a seventh-place showing at the NCAA Championship.

The 2013 ACC Men’s Cross Country Performer of the Year for a second consecutive season, the Williamsburg, Va., native captured the individual title at the 2013 ACC Championships, finishing the 8k course with a time of 23:37.9, besting the field by nearly 30 seconds. Colley placed second at the NCAA Southeast Regional, propelling the Wolfpack to an at-large berth in the NCAA Championship.

Duke’s Juliet Bottorff, Wake Forest’s Nicole Irving and Virginia’s Barbara Strehler were named to the league’s women’s academic honors team for the fourth time in their careers, while Virginia’s Kathleen Stevens, Boston College’s Liv Westphal and Boston College’s Brittany Winslow were selected for the third time.

Colley, Florida State’s Jacob Zivec, Georgia Tech’s Alec Clifford, Virginia’s Drew Paisley and North Carolina’s Isaac Presson earned ACC all-academic honors for the third time in their careers.
