For the first time in 25 years, NC State's volleyball team is headed to the NCAA Championships. The last time these two teams met, the Aggies won 3-1 in the 1990 Texas A&M Aggies Classic.
The two teams will meet for the third straight year in the tournament when they play at Iowa State's Hilton Coliseum. This is North Carolina's 14th appearance in the NCAA Volleyball Tournament and their fourth in the last five years.
State is coming off three games at the South Point Thanksgiving Shootout in Las Vegas. The only previous meeting between NC State and the Spartans came in Semifinals of Postseason WNIT.
The Cavaliers have a 4-1 record all-time in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. Virginia and Minnesota will meet for the fifth time, with the Golden Gophers holding a 3-1 advantage in the all-time series. The two teams last played in 2003.
This will be just the second meeting all-time between the two teams. Illinois won the first matchup, 65-50, which was also part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge in 2009.
Friday, Nov. 30, North Carolina will return to the College Cup for the first time since 2009. It marks the 26th NCAA College Cup appearance for the Tar Heels in the 31-year history of the tournament.
