ATLANTA - Georgia Tech will host its second annual banquet to honor its 1999 inductees into the Georgia Tech Athletics Hall of Fame, on Friday, November 12th, at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis Hotel, beginning at 7 p.m.
The banquet will honor a class of six inductees, including Brian Oliver, a former member of the "Lethal Weapon 3" team which carried Tech to its only NCAA Final Four appearance in 1990, all-America pither Scott Erwin, SEC swimming champion Charles Flowers, record-setting linebacker Joe Harris, former all-America golfer Charlie Rymer and football/track standout Mark White.
Oliver, from Smyrna, Ga., helped lead the Jackets to a school-best 28-7 mark in 1990, earning the Atlantic Coast Conference's Tournament MVP Award along the way. Erwin, from Tampa, Fla., recorded perhaps the best season in Tech history for a pitcher in 1988, posting a perfect 13-0 record. Rymer, who hails from Fort Mill, S.C., helped lead the Jackets to four straight NCAA Tournament berths during the 1987-88-89 and 90 seasons. Harris, one of Tech's all-time leading tacklers at linebacker for coach Pepper Rodgers, set a Tech single-season tackling mark in 1974 with 188 tackles that still stands. White earned a total of eight varsity letters at Tech, four as a football linebacker as member of Tech's famed "Black Watch" defense and four as an all-America discus thrower.
Additionally, Wes Durham, the "voice of the Yellow Jackets," will serve as master of ceremonies for the event, and special remarks will be contributed by Dr. Wayne Clough, president of Georgia Tech, and Dave Braine, Tech's director of athletics. All former Tech Hall of Fame inductees who are in attandance at the banquet will be recognized as well.
A special announcement at this year's Hall of Fame Banquet will be the compilation of the Top 25 athletes of the century for Georgia Tech.
