Coach Mac Calloway
The volleyball strength and conditioning program operates under the guidance of assistant strength and conditioning coach Mac Calloway, who will also oversee Miami's men's basketball and women's and men's tennis strength programs. Calloway comes to Miami after serving a year as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Clemson University. Prior to working at Clemson, Calloway worked at the University of Dayton as an assistant strength and conditioning coach.
From 2000-2002, Calloway gained experience in the professional ranks serving as the head strength and conditioning coach for the WNBA's Orlando Miracle and as an assistant strength coach with the NBA's Orlando Magic. During this span Calloway also worked as a private trainer at Pro Sports and Fitness, Inc. in Orlando. A member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association, Calloway conducted testing at the NBA Chicago Combine for Rookies in 2004 and 2005.
In 2000, Calloway earned a degree in Health Science Education from the University of Florida's College of Health and Human Performance
Lisa Dorfman, MS, RD, LMHC
Lisa Dorfman, The Running Nutritionist, is an author, Sports Nutritionist for the University of Miami Athletic Department and an adjunct professor in the exercise science department. Lisa has competed professionally in triathlon and running events for more than two decades and represented the United States at the 2004 Long Distance Duathlon World Championships for Team USA. Lisa's books, The Tropical Diet (2004) and The Vegetarian Sports Nutrition Guide (2000) are available worldwide and at her Web site, www.runningnutritionist.com.
Jennifer Lister, MS Ed., ATC
Jennifer Lister begins her second season with the Miami volleyball team in 2005. Lister, oversees the day-to-day and year-round health care of the Hurricane volleyball student athletes. Lister is in her fourth season as a member of the UM athletic training staff, serving as a Graduate Assistant Trainer for two years prior to being promoted to Assistant Athletic Trainer in August of 2004.
While at Miami, Lister has worked with each of UM's 15 varsity sports while primarily handling the athletic training duties for football, swimming and diving, men's and women's track and field and men's and women's cross country. A native of Syracuse, New York, Lister came to Miami in August 2002 after spending six seasons at the University of Pittsburgh as a Student Athletic Trainer while working towards her bachelor of science in athletic training. In June of 2004, Lister earned at masters of science in education in sports medicine from the University of Miami. Lister is an active member of the national athletic trainers association and an adjunct professor at UM in the undergraduate athletic training program where she teaches pharmacology and a senior seminar class.
Michael T. Robinson, D.M.D.
Dr. Michael Robinson enters his 10th year as one of the University of Miami team dentists. Robinson oversees the dental care of all of UM's 15 varsity sports. Along with Dr. Mariani and Dr. Leyte-Vidal, Dr. Robinson is the team dentist for the Miami Heat, a dental consultant to all South Miami High Schools and advisor for the pre-dental students at the University of Miami. A native of Rhode Island, Robinson came to Miami for his Bachelor of Science and attended the University of Pennsylvania for his DMD. He is also a member of iron arrow, an active member of the Academy of Sports Dentistry, and a guest lecturer to the Undergraduate Athletic Training Program at University of Miami.
Bryan W. Smith, M.D., Ph.D., FAAP
Bryan is the medical consultant for the Atlantic Coast Conference and the editor of the ACC Sports Sciences website. Prior to his duties for the ACC, Dr. Smith was the Head Team Physician at the University of North Carolina for nearly 10 years. He has authored approximately fifty scholarly articles and given more than 65 invited scholarly lectures. A pediatrician with a doctorate in exercise physiology, Dr. Smith is a past member of the American Board of Pediatrics, a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, a member of the American College of Sports Medicine, and a charter member of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine. He has served as the medical consultant to the NCAA Football Rules Committee, served on the NCAA Baseball Research Panel, and has been a past chairman of the NCAA Committee on Competitive Safeguards and Medical Aspects of Sports. Currently, Dr. Smith is a member of the United States Lacrosse Sports Science and Safety Committee and a member of the North Carolina Medical Society's Sports Medicine Committee.
