Goldberg: Big Boys Month

Nov. 4, 1999

ATLANTA - The month of November, the time each season when the contenders separate themselves from the pretenders. In my estimation, with FSU and Georgia Tech a lock for the postseason, we have five other ACC football teams fighting for three bowl spots. Maryland, NC State, Clemson, Virginia and Wake Forest all have realistic expectations of playing an "extra" game.

Last Monday on ACC Live, our football analyst Jack Corrigan declared this month as BIG BOYS month. The biggest of the "bigs" right now are Florida State and Georgia Tech, both seem headed to the BCS, but both realize that archrivals patiently await their opportunity to ruin a season. The regular season finales are Georgia Tech and Georgia at Bobby Dodd, and the Florida State Seminoles traveling to The Swamp to take on the Florida Gators.

This week will feature key games with Georgia Tech at Virginia and Maryland at NC State. We will go in-depth into both those games this Monday night on ACC Live, we will also continue to focus on the bowl picture in the ACC.

November is also a time for ACC Championships. Last Monday we featured the cross-country championships, and sent our congratulations to the NC State men and North Carolina women. This Monday night, the Live File covers the Field Hockey tournament. The nation's top ranked Maryland Terrapins are the favorites, and the Soccer report will come from Chapel Hill and the Women's Soccer Championships where Anson Dorrance is looking for another season of magic.

In the coming weeks, ACC HOOPS will be covered like never before. North Carolina Head Coach Bill Guthridge told me at Media Day that the ACC Men's Basketball scene is as wide open as he's seen it. As for Women's Hoops, the ACC was clearly the dominant conference in last year's NCAA tournament, and we anticipate much of the same in 1999-2000.

As you can see, our plate is mighty full for this page of the ACC calendar year, so sit back, relax and keep making ACC LIVE mandatory viewing in your homes!

See you Monday night!
