Greensboro, N.C. - Atlantic Coast Conference Commissioner John Swofford announced today that Kris Pierce will assume the role of Assistant Commissioner for Championships effective January 1, 2010.

The championships department is currently led by Davis Whitfield, who recently accepted the position of Executive Director of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association and will begin his new duties in January.

Pierce, who has served as the Assistant Director of Championships since August 2006, is a graduate of the University of North Carolina and has been in the conference office since September 2003. Prior to her role in Championships, Pierce served as the Administrative Assistant for Football Operations.

"Kris has done a terrific job in her current role and is well prepared to assume this responsibility," said ACC Commissioner John Swofford. "Her relationships with our member institutions and the knowledge she has acquired over the years of our league's sponsored sports will make this a seamless transition."
