GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Atlantic Coast Conference 50th Anniversary Gymnastics Team was announced today by Commissioner John Swofford. The four-member team was selected based on the only season that gymnastics was recognized as a league sport. It was discontinued after the 1984 ACC Championship. The four member team was determined using the results from the 1984 ACC Championship and includes the individual champions as decided by the league's 50th Anniversary Committee.
Maryland and NC State each placed two members on the Golden Anniversary team. Below, in alphabetical order, is the ACC's 50th Anniversary Gymnastics team.
Vicki Kreider, NC State (1981-84)
Member of first two NC State teams to compete at NCAA Regionals (83 and 84) and the ACC Championship team in 1984 that went 15-6 ... took 15th at the 1984 NCAA Regionals in the all-around ... was 25th on vault, 18th on bars, 14th on beam, and 24th on floor in that meet ... placed 31st in the all-around at NCAA Regionals as a junior in 1983 ... team MVP in 1982.
Angela Regan, NC State (1983-84)
Member of first two NC State teams to compete at NCAA Regionals (83 and 84) and the ACC Championship team in 1984 that went 15-6 ... finished 21st at the 1983 NCAA Regionals as a junior, including a fifth place finish on floor ... was 39th at NCAA Regionals as a senior.
Michele Ritenhour, Maryland (1983-84)
Was a member of the Maryland gymnastics team from 1983-84 ... was the 1983 vault champion at the ACC championship.
Robin Swick, Maryland (1984-87)
Competed for the Terps from 1984-87 ... she was the ACC champion on the floor and the all-around in 1984.
