GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Atlantic Coast Conference will pay special recognition to Virginia Tech at its upcoming spring season championships, Commissioner John D. Swofford said today.

Starting with this weekend's championships in men's golf, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's track and field and women's rowing and continuing through all remaining ACC championships, the league will conduct a moment of silence prior to the start of the opening day of championship competition.

There will be specially designed signage displayed at the various areas of competition recognizing the conference and schools' support and unity with Virginia Tech, stating "Today, we are all Hokies." In addition, all competing student-athletes will be provided black wristbands to wear during competition.

On Friday, the Virginia Tech flag will be prominently displayed at the Conference Office in Greensboro in honor of "Orange and Maroon Effect" day to show support for Virginia Tech students, faculty, administrators, staff, alumni and friends. "Orange and Maroon Effect" was born several years ago as an invitation to Hokie fans to wear orange and maroon to Virginia Tech athletic events.

"The Conference stands as one with Virginia Tech as they begin the healing process from this terrible tragedy," said Swofford. "We as a league will continue to remember those who lost their lives and honor our friends, colleagues and fellow students at Virginia Tech."
