Greensboro NCAA Basketball Regional Offers Athletic Leadership Symposium

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Atlantic Coast Conference partnered with the Sports Administration Graduate Program at the University of North Carolina and the National Association of Collegiate Women's Athletic Administrators (NACWAA) to offer the unique 2008 Athletic Leadership Symposium, which will be held in conjunction with the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Regional Final, on Tuesday, April 1 at the Greensboro Coliseum.

The format of the Symposium will consist of three panels concerning the economics of college sports, the marketing of women's basketball, and the escalation and complexity of coaching contracts. Confirmed speakers include conference commissioners John Swofford (ACC) and Kyle Kallander (Big South); collegiate athletics directors Nelson Bobb (UNC Greensboro), Judy Rose (UNC Charlotte), and Janet Cone (UNC Asheville); basketball coach Debbie Ryan (Virginia); marketing director Brett Tillett (Maryland); athletic administrator Nora Lynn Finch (NC State); Nike College Sports Marketing Director JoAn Scott,; as well as a host of other leaders in athletics and sports throughout the Atlantic and Southeast regions.

"The partnership between athletics and academics continues to strengthen," Dr. Debby Stroman, Symposium coordinator and UNC Chapel Hill assistant professor, states. "This event will showcase the best in athletic administration and allow for shared best practices for our university leaders, students, and supporters. The great basketball game that follows is the icing!"

The purpose of the 2008 Athletic Leadership Symposium is to provide an educational and professional networking opportunity during the Greensboro Regional. The Symposium will make a contribution to the NACWAA Foundation Fund, dedicated to providing educational programs, professional and personal development opportunities, information exchange, and support services to enhance college athletics and to promote the growth, leadership, and success of women as athletics administrators, professional staff, coaches, and student-athletes.

Registration includes admission to the Symposium, a networking dinner and reception, and a ticket to the NCAA Regional Final on Tuesday evening. Graduate students are encouraged to attend at a reduced rate.
