GALA: One of the highlights of the ACC year-long 50th Anniversary Celebration will be the 50th Anniversary Gala event, a once-in-a-lifetime, professionally produced ESPY's-style show, which will be held at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 12, in the Greensboro Coliseum Special Events Center. The two-hour show will feature the great stories of the past 50 years of the Atlantic Coast Conference, featuring the coaches, the athletes and the administrators who created the ACC's history and heritage. A key component of the evening will be the announcement of the Top 10 Male and Female Athletes in ACC history.

The Gala will feature the introduction of the Top 50 Male and Female athletes in Conference history, many of whom will be in attendance including football standouts Charlie Ward of Florida State, Randy White of Maryland, Don McCauley of North Carolina and Jim Ritcher of NC State and basketball greats David Thompson and Tommy Burleson of NC State, Billy Cunningham, Lennie Rosenbluth, Phil Ford and Charlie Scott of North Carolina, Virginia's Ralph Sampson, Wake Forest's Len Chappell and Dickie Hemric. Also scheduled to attend the Gala is two-sport standout Renaldo Nehemiah of Maryland and several women's basketball stars including Alana Beard of Duke, Barbara Kennedy of Clemson, Genia Beasley of NC State and Charlotte Smith of North Carolina.

Other outstanding athletes expected to be in attendance include Maryland lacrosse standout Jen Adams, NC State distance runner Julie Shea, North Carolina Olympian swimmer Sue Walsh, Clemson soccer All-American Bruce Murray, North Carolina soccer star Shannon Higgins, Wake Forest golfer Stephanie Neill Harner, Clemson Olympian Kim Graham, North Carolina wrestler T.J. Jaworsky, Duke tennis great Vanessa Webb and many others.
