The ACC Chat

Florida State junior Tasheika Morris stopped by on Friday, February 21, to talk hoops. Check out what she had to say below!

The junior forward leads the Seminoles in scoring with 14.5 points per game. An All-ACC third team selection last season, Morris transferred from the University of Tennessee in 2000.

Florida State (15-9, 7-6) travels to Charlottesville on Sunday to take on Virginia, then hosts Duke (2/27) and Clemson (3/2) before going to Greensboro for the ACC Tournament (3/7-3/10).

Tasheika: Hello everyone. I'm here a few minutes early and ready to take your questions. Let's get started.

Jack (Atlanta): You beat Virginia by 9 points on January 23, but the Cavs appear to be playing much better now. What must you do to win in Charlottesville on Sunday?
Tasheika: We need to be a lot more aggressive on the offensive end and play solid defense. We have to outwork them and bring our A game. We're playing away, so we'll have a lot against us. We just need to get back to playing Seminoles basketball, and we've gotten away from that over the last four games.

Kesha (Tifton, Georgia): Sheika, what has been your most memorable moment at FSU?
Tasheika: Probably the first time that my mom came to see me play. When I was at Tennessee, she came to see me play, but I didn't actually get to play a lot. Her getting to see me play here was totally different because I'm a starter and I get to play a lot. That felt really good.

Antwan (Pensacola): Of the three state (Alabama) championships you won in high school, which was the most rewarding for you personally?
Tasheika: The last one, because it was sort of the icing on the cake. Our high school team did so well, so it was sort of a stepping stone for moving on to college.

Bianca ( Huntsville): Why did you leave the University of Tennessee?
Tasheika: I think that every university is not for every person. I didn't feel I was a very good fit for that program, and I wanted to play a bigger role in my sport -- that's mainly the reason why I left.

Bob (Tennessee): What is the difference between Coach Summit's system and Coach Semrau's system? Which do you like better?
Tasheika: To be honest, I don't really remember coach Summit's system that well. The system here at FSU is great because I like to run, and it's uptempo. It all starts mainly on the defensive end.

W (Tallahassee): I'm a season ticketholder. I love the heart that you girls get out there and play with! Wishing you nothing but the best!!! Can you pinpoint why the team has struggled recently? What do you need to do to turn it around?
Tasheika: We've been struggling and, as I said earlier, we just need to get back to playing our style of basketball. We're at our best when we're outrebounding teams, and when we're playing really good defense. We just need to make everything work together.

Jack (South Carolina): Holly Johnson and LaQuinta Neely are sharing point guard duties right now. Is it tougher for a team to get into a flow when the point guard changes often, or does it matter?
Tasheika: It shouldn't matter. Individuals should be able to adapt to different point guards because sometimes you have to change the way things are run. It really shouldn't matter.

Nick (Tallahassee): Do you think that this team has the ability to beat Duke at home next Thursday? It seems like you played Duke step for step in Cameron until the final five minutes. This would be a huge win and help us with momentum in the ACC tournament.
Tasheika: Of course I feel that our team can beat them, we just have to play to the best of our ability. When we played them the first time, we only played for about 35 minutes, and it's a 40-minute game. So we need to play for the full 40 minutes.

Judy: What is the biggest difference in playing in the ACC and the SEC?
Tasheika: Once again, I didn't actually get to play in the SEC as much as I have in the ACC, so it's hard to compare the two conferences.

Tavaris Watts, greensboro: What do you like most about Tallahassee?
Tasheika: The sunny weather. I like the beach.
Tasheika: Practice is getting ready to start, so that's all the time I have for now. Thanks for all the great questions, and please tune into our Sunday game against Virginia on the regional sports network at 1 p.m.!!
