ACC Teams Finish Season Ranked in the ITA Poll

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Ten Atlantic Coast Conference women’s tennis squads capped the 2012-13 campaign ranked in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll.
North Carolina (28-4), which won the ITA National Indoor and advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Women’s Team Championship for the third time in the last four seasons, was the highest ranked ACC team at No. 4.
ACC Champion Miami, which also appeared in the NCAA Team Championship Quarterfinals for the fifth straight season, finished at No. 8, while Clemson (16-8), Duke (16-10) and Virginia (20-9) held the No. 13, No. 14 and No. 15 rankings respectively. The Tigers, Blue Devils and Cavaliers each advanced to the Round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament.
Also appearing in the NCAA Women’s Team Championship and finishing the season with a national ranking in tow were Georgia Tech (15-10) at No. 21, Florida State (15-11) at No. 24, and NC State (14-10) at No. 43. Virginia Tech (14-12) and Boston College (9-10) rounded out the ACC’s nine ranked teams at No. 53 and No. 64, respectively.
It was another banner year for ACC women’s tennis as it saw eight teams selected to the 2013 NCAA Women’s Team Championship, which marked the 14th consecutive season the ACC has placed at least five representatives in the field. Eleven singles players and two doubles teams earned berths in the NCAA Championship Singles and Doubles field, with two singles players advancing to the quarterfinals.
