GREENSBORO, N.C. – North Carolina senior attackman Marcus Holman and Duke junior midfielder Brendan Fowler have been named Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Lacrosse Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, for the week ending on Monday, Feb 11.
Holman led the Tar Heel attack unit which produced 10 goals and 8 assists in North Carolina’s 16-8 season-opening win over Air Force. The native of Baltimore, Md., had two goals and six assists for the Tar Heels, the most assists in a game by a Tar Heel since April 12, 1997. His eight points were just two short of his career high of 10 and matched his second highest total in his career.
A defensive midfielder and faceoff specialist, Fowler picked up 19 ground balls and won 59 percent of his faceoffs (30-of-51) to help Duke to a 1-1 weekend. Against No. 9 Denver to start the season, the native of Wantagh, N.Y., won 18-of-30 restarts and grabbed a career-high 11 ground balls. The next afternoon, Fowler tallied eight ground balls and won 12-of-21 draws in a 21-9 win over Jacksonville.
