Rollins Breaks Own Collegiate Record in 100 Hurdles Final at NCAA Championships

CLEMSON, SC - Clemson red-shirt junior Brianna Rollins dazzled the Historic Hayward Field crowd for a second time this week as she ran to another collegiate record in the 100 hurdles on Saturday at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. She blew away the field to a time of 12.39, one of the top times in history by an American athlete, to lead Clemson's women to a ninth-place team finish. It was the program's third straight top-10 finish at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.

Rollins used a great start and perfect form over the 10 hurdles en route to a second straight record-setting performance in front of a capacity crowd at the University of Oregon in Eugene. Gail Devers, two-time Olympic gold medalist in the 100 dash, set the American record with a time of 12.33 at the age of 33 in Sacramento, CA in 2000. Rollins does not turn 22 until August. With her title, it was her third National Championship in the hurdles. She joins Clemson Ring of Honor inductee Tina Krebs as the only three-time NCAA gold medalist in program history.

Quigley Provides Defining Moment

EUGENE, Ore. - With a blistering final 500 meters, sophomore Colleen Quigley provided the Florida State track & field program with a signature moment, grabbing the silver medal in the steeplechase on the final day of the NCAA Championship meet at Oregon's historic Hayward Field.

On a sun-splashed Saturday afternoon, Quigley broke away from Weber State's Amber Henry on the penultimate lap of the 3000-meter race, sailing to the eighth-fastest time (9:38.23) in NCAA history. Despite finishing three seconds behind two-time champion and 2012 Olympian Emma Coburn of Colorado, Quigley used an 11-second personal best to earn an IAAF World Championship A-standard.

Treff garners All-America honors to close out NCAA Outdoor Championships

EUGENE, Ore. – The Virginia Tech track & field team concluded the NCAA Outdoor Championships with one national champion, three first team All-Americans and five second team All-Americans after Matthias Treff earned second team honors today by finishing 15th in the javelin throw.

“The highlight of the week was certainly Tomas winning the hammer throw as well as Jeff Artis-Gray also competing extremely well in the long jump to pick up fifth,” Director of Track & Field Dave Cianelli said. “I was hoping for a little higher finish on the men’s side, but that’s just the way it was. We had a couple people come a little dinged up, but I thought everybody competed well. As it has been in the past, it’s such a high quality meet that you have to come in and be 100 percent healthy and you really have to bring your best to place in this meet."

Gardner Earns All-America Honors at NCAA Track Championships

Eugene, Ore. - Georgia Tech junior Jonathan Gardner finished seventh overall Saturday in the men's triple jump, earning All-America honors at the NCAA Track and Field Championships at Hayward Field on the University of Oregon's campus.

The junior from Chicago, Ill., made a career-best leap of 15.92 meters (52 feet, 2 ¾ inches) on his third jump, after recording distances of under 14 meters on his first two attempts, to place fourth in his flight and qualify for the finals. The top nine individuals moved onto the finals, where his jump held up.

LaFond Earns All-America Honors in High Jump

EUGENE, Ore. - Thea LaFond broke her second personal record of the weekend and earned All-America honors thanks to her performance in the high jump at the NCAA Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships Saturday evening.

LaFond had her second top ten performance of the weekend by placing eighth in high jump on Saturday. On her third and final attempt at clearing 6-0 she finally made it over the bar to secure the top ten finish.

Hill, Colley, Taylor Earn Second-Team All-America Honors

EUGENE, Ore. – Redshirt senior Ryan Hill, redshirt junior Andrew Colley and redshirt sophomore Tremanisha Taylor each earned second-team All-America recognition as NC State concluded competition on the final day of the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the University of Oregon.

Running in his final collegiate race, Hill clocked a 3:52.06 time in the men’s 1,500-meter event to finish in ninth place. The Hickory, N.C., native finishes his college career with 10 All-America awards – seven of which came during the track and field season while the other three were achieved in cross country.
