GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Virginia Tech senior Logan Shinholser has been named the 2013 Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Swimming & Diving Scholar-Athlete of the Year and headlines the 2013 All-ACC Academic Men's Swimming & Diving Team, as announced today by Commissioner John Swofford.

A chemical engineering major, Shinholser compiled three All-ACC finishes at the conference meet, placing second in all three diving disciplines to claim 51 points for the Hokies. At the NCAA Championship, he garnered Honorable Mention All-America accolades on the platform in ninth place.

Nine schools are represented on the All-ACC Academic Team, led by Virginia Tech with nine student-athletes. Georgia Tech, North Carolina, and Virginia have six apiece, while Florida State has five and NC State has four. Two from Duke were honored, followed by Boston College and Miami with one honoree.

Florida State's Nicholas Klein, Georgia Tech's Brandon Makinson, NC State's Brandon Kingston, and Virginia Tech's Greg Mahon and Shinholser were named to the league's academic team for the fourth time in their careers.

The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards were established in September 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports. Candidates for the awards must have maintained a 3.0 grade point average for their career as well as a 3.0 for each of the last two semesters. To be eligible for consideration for the All-ACC Academic Team, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.
