Five-point effort keys Demon Deacons’ road win at fourth-ranked Maryland
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Wake Forest senior forward Luca Gimenez has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week after his five-point effort keyed the Demon Deacons to an ACC road win at fourth-ranked Maryland.
Gimenez came off the bench in the 21st minute and made an immediate impact in Wake Forest’s 4-3 win. The Sao Paulo, Brazil, native’s goal in the 29th minute gave the Demon Deacons a 2-0 lead. After Maryland scored its first goal of the night, Gimenez answered by heading home his second shot at the 39-minute mark for a 3-1 lead.
Gimenez’s cross to Sean Okoli in the 41st minute set up the score that put Wake Forest in front 4-1, and the Demon Deacons held off the Terrapins from there to win.
The two goals for Gimenez against Maryland came on his only two shots of the game, as he tallied his first five-point game of the season. The multi-goal game was his first of the season and the fourth of his career.
