Sophomore leads Cavaliers’ win over second-ranked Notre Dame
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Virginia sophomore forward Darius Madison has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week after leading the Cavaliers to a 2-0 win over second-ranked and previously unbeaten Notre Dame.
The Philadelphia native scored both goals in Virginia’s 2-0 win on Saturday afternoon, connecting in the 43rd and 47th minutes for his first career multi-goal game. Madison was also named the College Soccer News National Player of the Week on Monday.
Madison and the Cavaliers became the first opposing team to score more than one goal this season against a Fighting Irish defense that entered the game ranked among the top 10 in the NCAA. The victory extended Virginia’s unbeaten streak to 10 matches, including the Cavaliers’ last four road contests.
