Miami’s Adrienne Motley receives second ACC Rookie of the Week honor

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Notre Dame senior guard Kayla McBride has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while Miami freshman guard Adrienne Motley has been tabbed the ACC Rookie of the Week, as announced Monday afternoon by the conference office and voted on by the Blue Ribbon Panel.

McBride, who was also named ESPNW’s National Player of the Week, averaged 20.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game with a .600 field goal percentage last week as Notre Dame picked up three ACC wins, including two road victories over top-10 opponents. McBride began her week with an efficient 20-point performance (on 7-of-11 shooting) at No. 8/6 Maryland, which she punctuated with the clinching basket with 11 seconds left, as the Fighting Irish raced to a 22-point lead, then held off a furious Terrapins’ rally for the win. She then had a game-high 18 points in 21 minutes of Thursday’s home win over Virginia Tech, before capping the week in impressive fashion on the road at No. 3/3 Duke with her first double-double of the season. McBride collected game highs of 23 points, 11 rebounds and five assists while hitting her first five shots from the field at in an 88-67 win at Duke.

Miami’s Motley shined last week in a 1-1 week for the Hurricanes, which included a win at No. 6/6 North Carolina. The freshman from Newport News, Va., averaged 21 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists, while owning a 64 percent field goal percentage. At No. 6 North Carolina, Motley poured in a career-high 27 points—the highest single game scoring mark of any Hurricane this season. Motley countered every Tar Heel punch with a jump shot of her own, accounting for five of Miami’s last seven made shots and 14 of Miami’s final 22 points. Against the ACC’s leading field goal percentage defense, Motley shot the ball with a 71 percent clip from the field (10-for-14) and 6-for-8 from the charity stripe.

It is the first ACC weekly honor for both McBride and Motley.

ACC women’s basketball action continues tonight as Georgia Tech plays at Pitt.
