Florida State’s Goodman Receives Second Weekly Award, Duke’s McCrory Lands First
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – NC State senior swimmer Jonathan Boffa and freshman diver Alexia Zevnik turned in key individual performances this week to land the Wolfpack swimming and diving program two Atlantic Coast Conference weekly honors. Also earning recognition this week was Florida State senior diver Kelsey Goodman, who received her second weekly honor of the season, and Duke’s Nick McCrory.
Boffa was tabbed as Male Swimmer of the Week after his strong individual performance on Friday against Florida State and Georgia Tech. Overall, Boffa collected three first-place finishes and recorded two NCAA ‘B’ cuts. He recorded his first ‘B’ cut in the 200 free with a time of 1:37.47, before following up with another first-place finish and ‘B’ cut in the 100 free with a time of 44.03. Boffa closed his evening as part of the 200 freestyle relay that won first-place with a time of 1:20.45.
Zevnik, the Female Swimmer of the Week, enjoyed another successful weekend, as she recorded two NCAA ‘B’ cuts and three first-place finishes in four events. Zevnik captured her second ‘B’ cut in back-to-back weeks in the 100 backstroke, with a time of 54.81. In the 200 back, the freshman cruised to victory with a time of 1:58.77 to earn her second ‘B’ cut of the meet. Zevnik also led the 200-medley relay team to a first-place finish and the 200 free relay team to a third-place finish.
The Male Diver of the Week, McCrory, returned to collegiate competition for the first time since capturing his third NCAA title on the platform at last spring’s NCAA Championships. Against UNC-Wilmington, McCrory posted scores of 445.27 in the 1-meter and 468.37 in the 3-meter, which bested the pool records at the UNCW Seahawk Natatorium. McCrory’s scores sit atop the charts in the ACC this season.
