Krzyzewski to Receive Leadership in Coaching Award

Coach K to be Honored in Washington, D.C. Sept. 24
DURHAM, N.C. (GoDuke.com) -- Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski will received the Nell and John Wooden Leadership in Coaching Award at "An Evening with the Legends of the Game" event in Washington, D.C. Sept. 24. The custom designed award will be presented by Nan Wooden, daughter of legendary UCLA coach John Wooden.
Krzyzewski, one of the most highly decorated coaches of all-time, enters the 2013-14 season with NCAA records in wins (957), 30-win seasons (13) and seasons ranked No. 1 in the AP Poll (16). He is in his 34th season at Duke and is 16 wins shy of becoming the second coach in NCAA history to record 900 wins at one school. Krzyzewski has also guided the Blue Devils to four National Championships (1991, 1992, 2001, 2010) and 11 Final Four appearances.
In addition to his staggering success in Durham, Krzyzewski has also helped reestablish USA Basketball atop the FIBA rankings. Now in his third stint as head coach of the U.S. Men's Senior National Team, he has guided the program to four gold medals, including a pair of Olympic golds.

In addition former Duke standouts Tommy Amaker and Grant Hill as well as Phil Chenier and Paul "Red" Jenkins will be inducted into the Washington Metropolitan Basketball Hall of Fame as part of the ceremonies. Other notables expected to attend include: Morgan Wootten, Kevin Grevey, Mike Brey, and Danny Ferry
"An Evening with the Legends of the Game" will take place Tuesday, September 24, 2013, from 6 - 10 pm at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington D.C. The evening will include dinner, awards presentations and a silent auction.
Tickets will be on sale beginning August 12 and are available online at www.AnEveningWithTheLegends.com. Tickets are $200, with a special Early Bird rate of $150 being offered until September 13th.
A portion of the proceeds will benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Washington DC and Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland & Northwest Indiana.
