Maryland earns top seed
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Maryland holds the top seed for the 27th annual Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Soccer Championship, set to begin on Tuesday, Nov. 12.
The Terrapins, who are ranked No. 5 in the latest NSCAA Poll, finished the season with a 7-1-3 record in league games to clinch the top overall seed for the second straight year. Maryland will open play in the tournament when it hosts Boston College (7-8-2, 4-6-1 ACC) on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. The Terrapins won the regular season meeting between the two teams, 2-1, on Oct. 4.
Notre Dame (11-1-5, 7-1-3) finished tied atop the league standings and earn the No. 2 seed in its first season in the ACC. The Irish, ranked No. 1 in the country, will make their tournament debut when they host Duke (8-4-6, 3-3-5), who they defeated, 3-1, in late September.
Wake Forest (9-4-5, 6-1-4) earned the third seed for the tournament. The Demon Deacons are ranked No. 13 in the nation and will host sixth-seeded Virginia (9-4-4, 4-3-4), which is ranked No. 15 nationally. Wake Forest won the regular season match, 3-2, on Sept. 13.
Clemson clinched the No. 4 seed and will host the quarterfinal match against fifth-seeded and 19th-ranked North Carolina. The Tigers (10-6-2, 5-4-2) defeated the Tar Heels (8-4-5, 4-2-5) 2-1 in overtime on Oct. 8.
All four quarterfinal matches will be at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 12.
