FSU’s Kristen Crowley and Maryland’s Hayley Brock Named ACC Women's Soccer Co-Players of the Week
Tuesday September 3, 2013
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) - Florida State redshirt freshman defender Kristen Crowley and Maryland senior forward Haley Brock have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Soccer Co-Players of the Week, announced by the league on Tuesday.
Crowley and Brock were also named to TopDrawerSoccer.com’s Team of the Week.
Crowley earns her first player of the week honor following a 2-0 week for the Seminoles where she played every minute in both matches against No. 8/19 Florida and No. 17/21 UCF. Crowley was part of the Seminole defense that helped post back-to-back shutouts while limiting the opposition to just six shots on goal combined. Against UCF on Sept. 1, the Panama City Beach, Fla., native found the right time for her first collegiate goal as she put away a loose ball from close range to lift the Seminoles over the Knights with the golden goal in the 96th minute.
Brock totaled 11 points on five goals and one assist in a 3-0 week for the Terps. The Acton, Mass., native began the week with a hat trick in a 4-2 come-from-behind victory over Villanova on Aug. 26. With Maryland trailing 2-1 late in the game, Brock scored all three of her goals in a four-minute span to lead Maryland to the win. In a 3-0 win over George Mason, Brock provided the game-winning assist and a goal, and capped the five-goal week with a strike in a 2-0 win against Navy. Brock leads the ACC with six goals this season, and has scored in each of Maryland’s last six games dating back to the 2012 postseason.
The player of the week honor is her third of her career.
ACC teams are back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 5, with Pittsburgh playing at Robert Morris and NC State hosting No. 13/14 Georgetown.
