Countdown to #ACCTipoff: Wake Forest Demon Deacons

Countdown to #ACCTipoff: Wake Forest Demon Deacons

Friday November 1, 2013

  • •  Senior Chelsea Douglas enters the season as one of the top scoring point guards in the conference. Douglas averaged 14.6 points per game last season and knocked-down 72 three pointers, the third-best total in the league. She’ll likely finish in the top-6 for career points in school history.
  • •  Wake Forest head coach Jen Hoover is in her second season at the helm of her alma mater. She finished with a record of 13-19 in her first season. Hoover is the school’s all-time leader in career points and rebounds.
  • •  Wake Forest is the only team in the conference that has won an ACC Tournament game each of the last five seasons. The Deacons defeated Georgia Tech 86-67 in the opening round in 2013 before falling in overtime to No. 2-seed Maryland.
  • •  The Demon Deacons were one of the more experienced teams last year in terms of points returning and experience. This season will be different. Wake Forest is looking to replace four of its top-6 point scorers from a season ago, including a pair of 1,000-point scorers in Lakevia Boykin and Sandra Garcia.
  • •  Half of Wake Forest’s roster this season consists of freshmen. There are a total of five true freshmen to go along with redshirt-freshman Kelila Atkinson, who joined the team last January.
