The Hokies return three starters and seven of their top nine scorers from last year’s team that finished 13-19 overall and 12th place in the ACC with a 4-14 mark ... second-year head coach James Johnson looks to replace senior guard Erick Green, the nation’s leading scorer (25.0) and ACSMA’s 2013 ACC Player of the Year ... Green became the first ACC player since South Carolina’s Grady Wallace (31.2) in 1957, to lead the nation in scoring ... Virginia Tech lost five games by seven points-or-less and suffered two overtime defeats at North Carolina and NC State.
A two-year starter, senior Jarell Eddie is the team’s leading returning scorer (12.3) and second-leading rebounder (5.6) ... averaged 15.7 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists over the last three games a year ago ... scored in double figures 19 times, including five games with 20 or more points ... made 81 of 96 free throw attempts (.844) last year and over the last two seasons has made 140-of-164 (.854) from the charity stripe.
Cadarian Raines led the team in rebounds (6.4) and blocked shots (34) as a junior in 2013 ... tallied 10 or more points eight times and had 14 games with seven or more rebounds.
C.J. Barksdale started 30 games as a sophomore, averaging 5.6 points and 4.7 rebounds ... shot .523 from the floor and .771 from the free throw line.
