Mike Brey, in his 14th season as the Fighting Irish head coach, welcomes back four upper class starters from a team that finished 25-10 overall (marking the seventh straight 20-win season) and tied for fifth place in the Big East Conference with a 11-7 league mark ... Notre Dame made its fourth-straight NCAA Tournament appearance, and sixth in the last seven years ... the Irish have made the post-season in each of Brey’s 14 years in South Bend ... the 25 wins tied for the second-most in Brey’s tenure ... last year’s senior class was the school’s all-time winningest totaling 97 wins over the last four seasons ... Notre Dame was 3-1 in overtime games in 2013, including a five-overtime victory over Louisville (F9) ... Brey looks to replace a pair of 1,000-point scorers in guard Scott Martin and forward Jack Cooley, an All-Big East first team selection.
Two-year starter with 66 consecutive starts at small forward, Lamar Patterson is the team’s leading returning scorer (10.0) and second-leading rebounder (4.3) ... also ranked third on the team in assists (2.8) and has a career assist-to-turnover ratio of 1.81:1 (273:151) ... scored in double figures 17 times a year ago, including in nine of the last 16 games ... has five career double-doubles.
Notre Dame’s three-guard lineup of Eric Atkins, Jerian Grant and Pat Connaughton combined to average 33.4 points, 13.2 assists in 2013, with an assists-to-turnover ratio of 2.25-to-1.
