Jim Larrañaga begins his third season in Coral Gables welcoming an almost entirely new cast as Miami seeks to successfully defend its first-ever ACC title ... senior guard Rion Brown is the only returning player to have started a game last season, which saw the Hurricanes go 29-7 overall and finish atop the ACC with a 15-3 regular season mark, before defeating North Carolina in the ACC title game ... Miami finished the season ranked fifth in the AP poll and 10th in the coaches poll ... gone are the team’s top six scorers - Shane Larkin (14.5), Durand Scott (13.1), Kenny Kadji (12.9), Trey McKinney-Jones (9.2), Reggie Johnson (6.7) and Julian Gamble (6.5) ... during their time in Miami, those six players combined for 5,399 career points, 2,744 rebounds, 966 assists, 480 steals, 369 blocked shots and 412 starts.
Rion Brown averaged 6.4 points and 2.0 rebounds in 36 games a year ago, including six starts ... had seven games with 10-or-more points ... had 21 points and five rebounds in Miami’s 63-59 win over Illinois in the third round of the NCAA Tournament ... was fifth on the team in 2013 in minutes played (22.2) per game.
The Hurricanes return only 13 percent of their team’s scoring from a year ago ... Garrius Adams, who averaged 4.5 points and 2.9 rebounds in 2011-12, returns for his senior season.
