Mark Turgeon’s third team as Maryland’s head coach will feature two returning starters and four key reserves from a team that was 25-13 overall, seventh in the ACC with a 8-10 mark, and a NIT semifinalist ... the Terps won five of their last seven games en route to posting the program’s most wins since 2007 ... Turgeon looks to replace Alex Len, who averaged 11.9 points per game and was the team’s leading rebounder (7.8) and shot blocker (78) and guard Pe’Shon Howard, who paced the team in assists (3.6) and forward James Padgett (5.1 ppg).
The Terps became the first team since North Carolina in 1998, to lead the ACC in both field goal percentage defense (.385) and rebound margin (+8.6) ... the Terps out-rebounded their opponents in 35 of 38 games.
Dez Wells led the Terps in scoring (13.1) and minutes played (28.6) as a sophomore in 2013 ... was second on the team in assists (3.0), third in rebounds (4.9) and blocked shots (20) ... named first team All-ACC Tournament after averaging 22.0 points and 6.3 rebounds in three games ... sixth in the ACC in field goal percentage (.526) ... averaged 17.0 points and 6.3 rebounds over the last 11 games of the season.
