NC State’s Renada Davis and Florida State’s Lacey Waldrop receive recognition

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – NC State shortstop Renada Davis has been named this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week, while Florida State pitcher Lacey Waldrop earned ACC Pitcher of the Week honors.

Davis led the Wolfpack at the plate in the last four games, as she hit .462 in those contests with six hits, three home runs and seven RBI. Davis homered twice in the 15-0 rout of St. Bonaventure to record her first multi-homer game of the season. She hit home runs in consecutive plate appearances, as she blasted a solo shot in the second inning and a two-run homer in the fourth inning. Her final RBI of the contest came in the fifth inning on a single to left field. In game one of the Virginia series, Davis picked right up where she left off on Tuesday, hitting a solo homer over the fence in right center on the second pitch of the game. She later singled in the game to drive in her second run of the game. Davis doubled in the second game of the doubleheader to extend her hit streak to seven games, before having it snapped in the final game of the series on Sunday.

Waldrop led Florida State to two road wins over ranked teams. The Seminoles traveled to No. 25 Auburn and defeated the Tigers, 5-4, behind Waldrop’s complete game, in which she allowed six hits, four walks and only one earned run to go along with eight strikeouts. FSU continued to the Easton Crimson Classic in Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Waldrop faced Houston once and No. 11 Alabama twice. Waldrop was dominant in her game against Houston, throwing 5.0 innings allowing only one unearned run, zero walks and posting 10 strikeouts. In two games against No. 11 Alabama, Waldrop pitched 10.0 innings, surrendering only seven total hits, one run, two walks and striking out 11. The ‘Noles narrowly lost the first game on March 1, 1-0, but came back to handily defeat the Crimson Tide on March 2, 5-1.  Waldrop has earned three of the ACC’s four Pitcher of the Week honors this season.
