ACC Student-Athletes and Coach Strike Gold with USA Basketball

GREENSBORO, N.C. – ACC student-athletes Tricia Liston and Alexis Jones of Duke, and Miami head coach Katie Meier each struck gold with their respective USA Basketball Teams this month. Liston earned the gold medal as part of 2013 USA Basketball Women’s World University Games Team, while Meier and Jones led Team USA to its fifth straight FIBA U19 World Championship gold medal.
Meier guided Team USA to a perfect 9-0 record, which included wins over Lithuania, China and Mali in the preliminary round, Netherlands, Canada and France in the second round, Japan in the quarterfinals, Australia in the semifinals and France in the championship final. Team USA defeated France 61-28, while holding France to just eight second half points in the gold medal game.

Jones started in all nine games and averaged 10.0 points, 4.3 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 1.7 steals, while collecting her third career gold medal with USA Basketball.
Liston helped Team USA to its third straight gold medal at the World University Games, while contributing 8.2 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game in Team USA’s six wins. Liston also knocked down nine 3-pointers, which tied for a team best, and hit a team-high 42.9 percent from downtown.
Team USA defeated Mali, Canada and Brazil in the preliminary round, Sweden in the quarterfinals, Australia in the semifinals and Russia, 90-71, in the championship final en route to World University Games gold.
