ACC Leads With 8 Women's Teams Among NSCAA Preseason Rankings

Four conference teams ranked among top five; Brian leads MAC Hermann Watch List

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – The Atlantic Coast Conference leads all leagues with eight women’s soccer teams among the NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division I Preseason Top 25 – including four teams ranked among the top five.

Defending ACC champion Florida State holds the No. 2 spot behind defending NCAA champion UCLA. The ACC also holds the next three spots in the poll, with Virginia at No. 3, North Carolina at No. 4 and Virginia Tech at No. 5.

FSU, Virginia and Virginia Tech were all participants in the 2013 NCAA Women’s College Cup.

Notre Dame holds the No. 16 spot in Wednesday’s preseason poll, while Duke is at No. 18, Boston College at No. 19 and Wake Forest at No. 21.

Virginia rising senior Morgan Brian, who claimed the 2013 MAC Hermann Trophy, leads the 2014 watch list for the award, which was also released on Wednesday. Brian, of St. Simons Island South Carolina, is one of seven ACC student-athletes on the 35-member watch list, which also includes Florida State’s Dagny Brynjarsdottir, Virginia’s Danielle Colaprico and Mackenzy Doniak, North Carolina’s Summer Green, Boston College’s McKenzie Meehan and Notre Dame’s Cari Roccaro.
