Three garner Regional Player of the Year accolades

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Led be three Region Players of the Year, 35 Atlantic Coast Conference field hockey student-athletes were named to 2013 Longstreth/NFHCA Division I All-Region Teams, which were announced Tuesday by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association. The total is the most for any conference in the nation, leading the Big Ten and Big East with 21 apiece.

ACC players claimed three of the five Regional Players of the Year. Maryland senior forward Jill Witmer won the honor for the Mid-Atlantic Region, Boston College junior midfielder Emma Plasteras was named the best from the Northeast Region, and North Carolina sophomore midfielder Emily Wold was selected as the South Region Player of the Year.

Of the 35 NFHCA All-Region honorees, 20 are first team selections and 15 are on the second team. Maryland led the league with seven players recognized, followed by six from North Carolina and Syracuse, five from Boston College and Duke, and three from Virginia and Wake Forest.
