@ACCBaseball: Sixty-Five Taken in MLB Draft

Saturday June 7, 2014

Florida State and Virginia lead with eight apiece

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Sixty-five student-athletes from Atlantic Coast Conference schools were taken during the 2014 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, which concluded on Saturday.

The total sets a new league record and marks the eighth time in the last nine years that at least 50 league players have been selected. All 14 ACC programs had at least one player drafted.

Earlier in the draft, the ACC had six players chosen in the first round and the first competitive balance round, three times more than any other conference and tying the previous record set in 1994. It extended a streak with at least one first round pick from the ACC to 23 straight years.

Florida State and Virginia led all ACC schools and tied for second nationally with eight picks apiece. Miami and NC State had seven players selected, while Clemson and Georgia Tech had six taken.

Of the 30 MLB teams, 27 drafted at least one player from the ACC.
