2014 All-ACC Academic Men’s Basketball Team Announced

GREENSBORO, N.C. – North Carolina’s Marcus Paige, a second-team CoSIDA Academic All-America selection, Virginia Tech’s Jarell Eddie, a three-time All-ACC Academic honoree and Duke’s Jabari Parker, a nine-time ACC Freshman of the Week selection, headline the 2014 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Men’s Basketball team, as announced today by Commissioner John Swofford.

To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.

Paige, a four-time ACC Player of the Week recipient for the 14th-ranked Tar Heels, has scored 10 or more points in all but five games this season and is currently sixth in the ACC in scoring (16.9), tied for fourth in assists (4.5), second in free throw percentage (.880) and fifth in three-point field goal percentage (.391).

Eddie, a three-year starter for the Hokies, leads the team in scoring (13.4) and rebounds (5.4) and is second in the ACC in three-point field goals made per game (2.5) and seventh in three-point field goal percentage (.376).

In addition to leading the fourth-ranked Blue Devils in both scoring (18.8) and rebounding (8.9), Parker has scored in double figures in all but two games and leads the ACC in 20-point games (15), 10-rebound games (12) and double-doubles (12).

Other academic team honorees among league leaders are Duke’s Rodney Hood, eighth in scoring, (16.3) and fourth in field goal percentage (.476); Miami’s Donnavan Kirk, seventh in blocked shots (1.6); Wake Forest’s Coron Williams, 10th in three-point field goals made per game (2.0) and Virginia Tech’s Joey van Zegeren, fifth in blocked shots (1.8).

Paige, Boston College’s Joe Rahon, Duke’s Amile Jefferson and Georgia Tech’s Marcus Georges-Hunt each earned a spot on the league’s academic honor team for the second time in their respective careers.
